Santiago and Chalma

One of the charms of this city is to find neighborhoods with their own very peculiar traditions. For years, going all afternoon on Loop, near San Angel, I saw kites very considerable height, and not a lot! And I wondered if this was a family tradition or something and wanted to write about, which meant doing field research for which I have not had time. Fortunately, yesterday, of Reform, went ahead and posted this note.
The San Angel papaloteros compete among themselves as the protagonist of the book Kite .
In Mexico call kites to kites, its history and significance, see here.

For Yaokóatl Chavez (29-Mar-2010) .-

supported only by a thread, rice paper figures cut through the air south of the City Mexico.
In Colonia Jardines de San Angel Inn, in Alvaro Obregon, children, youth and adults as Luis, Brian Henry, Mark and Elisa, keep the taste for flying kites.
From Loop South, near San Angelo, you can see pieces of paper flying.
Volar un Kiting is something father because people can not, "says Enrique, 15.
From a rooftop, and his cousin Luis Enrique compete against Brian's friends, and looking down the kites of opponents.
The fun is possible also for the brothers Mark and Elisa Hernandez, who is engaged in the production of kites, 4, 6 and even 8-woods for 30 years.
"Making kites is a therapy, is a way to get out of the routine tailoring. (Our) older brothers did the kites after us and we learned how we started, "says Mark.
Elisa recalls that he enjoyed seeing how his brothers were the kites and liked it but also opened my eyes to a possible business.
"Being here in the tailoring was business as we saw it was because my brother Mark is the one that began its development and I started to help. The best sellers are the hexagonal" he explains.
kite lovers, even from other areas because they know that tailoring is more than a place to repair clothes, such as Jose Felipe Espindola, who brings her two children to make kites.
The child chooses a white kite in the shape of a puma on pink paper, her brother takes a kite black with the mask of "Scream Scary Movie" in white.
"Today we come for two kites, string and glue, because without tail just do not fly, "said Espindola." Flying a kite is like watching a campfire or waterfall, (...) is a relaxing activity.
A tailoring clients come twice a week to buy attachments as spools of thread or glue fabric, but there are manufactured diamonds, hexagons and octagons in various designs, ranging from Canadian maple leaves, kittis masks, wrestlers, football team logos, to abstract designs in various colors.
" (Flying Kite) brings you back to childhood, you come to feel like a child, "says Hector, Elisa's nephew and son of Mark." The kites are creative things that can lead to many ideas beyond video games. To fly a kite you need to show your sensitivity, your creativity and even your personality. "

kites

time ago talking to a friend about the Camino de Santiago, on the possibility to perform the pilgrimage. Yes I would. A few days later, talking to someone about trips I mentioned the crazy (and unlikely) hope that I have to reach Chalma by the mountain road between Mexico City and the sanctuary. Almost as a joke I said that path would surely many more devout than the Apostle Santiago Compostela, cross betting to their noisy disbelief. But my surprise was even greater, to find data on the number of pilgrims who come to one and another shrine, I almost fell backwards: Santiago de Compostela, the goal of European pilgrimages for more than ten centuries received in 2007 to nearly 120 000 pilgrims, the Lord of Chalma in the State of Mexico was in the days of your party to and a half million pilgrims! not counting those who come at other times of year.

analyzing the data of Santiago I realized that it is very precise way of accounting for the pilgrims and I assumed that the method of counting the pilgrims to Chalma was "the ojímetro" but nonetheless can not be equated in any way. I found some sources say the number of pilgrims each year is 15 million, while the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Mexico (to justify their appalling inaction, I guess) says they are 3 million visitors a year. In any case, an overwhelming amount of people and resources.

still amazes me that there are politicians who see a dim religious tourism, so appreciated elsewhere (say in the State of Israel * Jewish faith, although Christians are pilgrims , or PSOE Spain and Zapatero) if they leave a fortune!

What does the Mexican government do to combat obesity? Advertising

Agustín Lara, program director of adult and elder of the SSA, said the agency has a special program to deal with such evils.
however, acknowledged the lack of SSA campaigns about the risks that obesity can bring diseases like hypertension, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The SSA and the WHO agree that obesity is regarded as the epidemic of the century. "Over 62 percent of Mexicans over age 20 are overweight. The main entities that have the problem: Coahuila, Baja California, Tamaulipas and Colima.

This says Agustín Lara (assuming that is as thin as his namesake) and it is a serious problem public health, this, coupled with the disgraceful first in childhood obesity, is the chronicle of an epidemic foretold, a tsunami of unforeseeable dimensions (this is just the aftermath of the wave).

What does the government do to combat, "today, not tomorrow, this megabronca? I think the problem is too many edges. Demonize fast food so far has been its most aggressive action and I doubt you have the slightest effect. Many of us had grandmothers, aunts and mothers who practiced endlessly lecture us about the misfortunes that befall children who eat candy before eating, not that would create the least effect.

I read I do not remember where, as the government lacks teeth to implement real and decisive action and the few teeth that remain, many are in charge of graves. But what if we put the batteries and soft drink companies demand first (also flaunt second in consumption of soft drinks will you have something to do?) And companies engaged in the production of snacks, sweets and other things, the obligation to reduce substantially the chatarrez of your products? (Cultural note: the Basque txatarra, the old and in Mexico referred to the low quality of something). That is, a little less sugar, a little more than vitamins, a little more fiber and stuff. If you travel you will find that anywhere in the world drinks "taste" have so many sugar and Mexico.

Then desedentarizar the Mexicans will be a feat that can begin by eliminating the subsidy on gasoline Does that sound crazy? Read here . After

who trains teachers of physical education? If sport and recreational physical activity is not even remotely taste instill in children a drag ... socialist, perhaps? which is equally gifted children, when many, or at least one season of our life, we have two left feet, shaky self-esteem or no taste for competition.

And here I leave, because this is like eating and scratching ...
